The annual EuroMeeting is global in scope, attracting well over 3,000 professionals from over 50 countries.  It brings together professionals from the biopharmaceutical industry, contract service organisations, academic research centres, regulatory agencies and health ministries. This convergence affords attendees the opportunity to network with professionals from around the world.  I am writing to you to encourage you to apply for a DIA Patient Fellowship to attend the 20th Annual EuroMeeting in Barcelona, March 3-5, 2008. DIA welcomes the active participation of patient organisation representatives in the EuroMeeting. Please note that completed applications must be received by: December 12, 2008. Patient Fellowship Programme   1          IntroductionThe DIA Patient Fellowship Programme, now in its third year, has enhanced the participation of patient representatives as speakers and contributed to strengthen links with industry, public health authorities and academia. DIA acknowledges the valuable support of Eurordis in supporting, developing and promoting the Fellowship. 2          ObjectivesThe main objectives of this programme are to create a platform to:
  • include all interested parties
  • stimulate mutual understanding and cross-culture co-operation
  • allow knowledge acquisition and training for Patient Organisation Representatives
  • identify potential new Patient Organisation Representatives’ leaders in regulatory affairs
 3          Longterm GoalsThe long-term goal of the programme is to develop sustainable participation of Patient Organisation Representatives in future DIA EuroMeetings and allow patient associations in Europe to:·        acquire knowledge and provide training to Patient Organisation Representatives·        develop an understanding of the strategies and concerns of the pharmaceutical industry and regulatory authorities·        interact with an industry network·        receive recognition and support from a neutral forum, i.e. the DIA 4          EligibilityPatient Fellows selected have to be representatives of non-profit patient organisations. 5          Fully Supported Patient Fellowships: Total of 22 Available·        Complimentary registration to the 20th Annual EuroMeeting (including refreshments, lunch, and networking receptions)·        Complimentary pre-conference tutorial of your choice·        Taxi to and from airport·        Return travel to and from Barcelona (economy class) for one person·        Hotel accommodation for three nights near to conference centre (Sunday-Tuesday) 6          Partly Supported Patient Fellowships: Total of 20 Available·        Complimentary registration to the 20th Annual EuroMeeting (including refreshments, lunch, and networking receptions)·        Complimentary pre-conference tutorial 7          Patient Representatives at the EuroMeeting 2008The EuroMeeting will provide you with an opportunity to meet other patient representatives as well as key decision makers in the pharmaceutical industry. ·        a special badge for fellows to be easily identified·        a specific DIA Patient Fellowship Booth. The booth will act as a centre for patient activities and also be a space where you will be able to distribute information about your organisation to attendees·        additional meeting room for private meetings ·        a specific area with seating reserved for Patient Fellows and their guests 8          ApplicationAll Patient Organisation Representatives who would like to participate in the Fellowship Programme should complete and return the attached application form. The Patient Organisation Representatives are required to:·        attend all three days of the DIA EuroMeeting 2008·        participate in Patient Fellowship activities·        complete and return the Fellow Feedback form after the EuroMeeting. The application form should be emailed to Sandra Weber in the DIA Europe Office by December 12, 2007 at the latest: sandra.weber@diaeurope.org 9          SelectionThe Fellows will be elected by a committee composed of the two EuroMeeting co-chairpersons, the chairman of the ACE (Advisory Council of Europe), the Patient Organisation Representative to the EuroMeeting Programme Committee, and a member of the DIA Board. 10        Announcement of Successful ApplicantsThe announcement of those selected will be made to applicants on December 19 2007.
